The Manali cocktail and end tables in Wenge and ancient rescued Maple. These two new tables in our original "floating" Manali design were crafted from two contrasting hardwoods. The cocktail table features two separated book-matched slabs of Maple, floating over the Wenge base and legs. The end table features a single floating book-matched slab that is separated with a quarter inch space to add further interest.
The tables are crafted using extra deep mortise and tenon construction due to the massive 4″ wide solid Wenge legs. The book-matched tops rest on stretchers of mahogany that provide the tops their floating appearance. These substantial tables are strong and built to endure decades in not centuries. They are finished in a hand-rubbed oil and varnish and were handcrafted in East Dundee, IL.
A note on the special hardwoods: The "rescued" Maple was taken from a very large old Hard Maple tree that came down as a result of age and a storm in 2004. The huge old Maple was the town Maple in Clinton, IA and may have been as old as 900 years. The deep figure and quilting of the Maple heartwood is very rare and likely was a result of the trees significant age and size. The Solid African Wenge base provides a wonderful contrast to the Hard Maple.
